Date nights for us have become boring and unimaginative. It’s either dinner out and home or a movie then dinner out. So, when I had the opportunity to review Green Chef I immediately decided that we were going to make it a date night – at home and making our meal together.
I chose the Carnivore Plan. When our box of goodies arrived the 3 meals included were Dijon Maple Chicken, Five Spice Pork, and Tuna Au Poivre. The meals came packaged very neatly in one box. Each meal was labeled with its own color which made it much easier to separate ingredients.
For our date night, we chose to make the Dijon Maple Chicken. Of the 3 meals we received, this is what appealed to me the most. The pictures on the recipe card looked amazing and I was excited to make the meal. And that’s saying a lot because I pretty much HATE to cook.

Of the 3 meals we received, this is what appealed to me the most. The pictures on the recipe card looked amazing and I was excited to help my husband make the meal. And that’s saying a lot because I pretty much HATE to cook.
The directions were very easy to understand. I’m lucky that I have a husband that loves to cook. He jumped right in and started prepping the parsnips for the for herb roasted fries.
I put the organic chicken legs on the stove to sear until they were evenly browned. Like I mentioned above, I hate to cook so I rarely make anything that needs to be watched carefully. I am a stay at home mom of triplets, after all. I get easily distracted and then our meal gets burned or catches fire!
But, without distraction this night, I seared the drumsticks perfectly if I do say so myself!
Matt began chopping the snap peas for the cole slaw. It also included cabbage (of course), cranberries, and a chive-parsley vinegarette that was to die for.
The finished meal was amazing.
For someone that orders the same thing at every restaurant I visit, I was stepping out of my comfort zone a bit in trying foods I have never eaten before – parsnips. I have to tell you, these fries were wonderful. And my husband and I both agreed that we would make them again. My favorite was the snap pea-cabbage slaw. It was the dressing that won me over. I can’t even explain the taste, but know that I will be making this again in the future too.
The other two meals we received, Five Spice Pork, and Tuna Au Poivre, we made during the week. My husband very much enjoyed the pork meal, but I did not. The hoisin-tamari sauce too spicy for me. And although neither of us like tuna steaks (because this was a sponsored review I was unaware of what meals I would receive), we did make the meal and tried it. We didn’t care for the tuna, but the bulgur, potatoes and brussels sprouts were very good.
I really loved the convenience of having these meals delivered right to my door. We had healthy meals on the table in no time! My husband and I both agreed that if it weren’t for the cost (just under $90 a week for the 2 person Carnivore Plan and just over $80 a week for the Omnivore Plan), we would have Green Chef delivered to our door every week.
I can see us ordering Green Chef again every once in awhile – for date night again for sure. We had a great time making the meal together.
