Four years ago we celebrated our first Easter as a family of five in the NICU. This, of course, is not the ideal place to spend the holiday, but we still made the day special for all of us.
We Are Family
Before we arrived at the hospital for the day, the nurses dressed our babies in bunny ears and took pictures of them for us. This was very fitting as we got them their own baby bunnies as gifts.
They even put them in an Easter basket. It’s so hard for me to remember them being this tiny. We took that Easter basket home as a reminder that although our babies were incredibly small, they were mighty and strong.
We spent the entire day doing what we did best back then – snuggling Jase, Henley, and Sadie until it was time for us to make our long journey home. To say it was a special day is an understatement. It was magical. We were so thankful to be able to spend that time with our babies when I know there were other families who weren’t so lucky.
Since then, we have celebrated three more Easters with our (once) preemies. Each year we thank God for our three, now not so tiny, blessings. We are family.
Thank you for reading a story from #BehindTheBlogger Hop. Every 2 weeks a group of bloggers is given a writing prompt. These prompts are very open ended, so our bloggers can write about whatever they desire. The main rule is that their blog post directly relates to the topic of that week. The point of this hop is for our readers to get to know us on a personal level.
